Wholewheat Pita Pizza's
  • Description:

Get the kids involved in making their own pizzas – they can even choose their own yummy toppings! This is a great way of having a ‘takeaway night’ with something healthy.

  • Ingredients:

1 cup mozzarella/mature Cheddar cheese; freshly grated (you can use up to ¼ cup per pizza)

Tomato sauce (any variety that has no sugar added is good)

    Mushrooms; sliced

    Lean gypsy ham

    2 tomatoes; diced

    4 wholewheat pita breads

    ½ red onion; diced

    1 yellow pepper; diced

  • Method:

    (Serves 4)

    1. Warm your pita bread in a toaster/oven or in a pan over low heat.
    2. Chop your veggies.
    3. Top 1 pita bread with 1-2 tbsp. of sauce, and a handful of each of the veggies (use as much as you like - the more veggies, the more fibre and nutrients are on your pizza).

    4. Add the ham.
    5. Top with ¼ cup of cheese, or less, depending on how much cheese you like.
    6. Heat the pizzas in your oven until the cheese melts: you can heat the pizzas under the grill at 180 °C until the cheese melts (or use your regular oven setting at 180°C).
