Sam Scarborough is a creative director, author, stylist and children's decor consultant.

Sam has been published in South Africa (Children's Rooms, Struik 2008) and in the UK (Cool Spaces for Kids, Hamlyn 2009), and self-published her third kids’ interior book, Baby Rooms & Nurseries (2012). Sam's fourth book, Kids' Market Day (Struik), was released in September 2014, and her fifth book, Rooms Your Kids will Love is coming out later this year (Human & Rousseau).

During her 20-year design career Sam has shaped her experience in a number of leading retail and consumer magazine environments. Sam started in magazines as art director of promotions, where she gained experience in location shoots, styling and art directing. She then moved over to advertising where she worked on two major fashion brands. Through her success on these, she was headhunted by Edcon (SA’s largest retailer) as Group Creative Director, where she worked on Edgars, Sales House and Jet.

Sam also runs a kids’ decor company specialising in product design of creative play spaces and play ideas for children. She is also a decor consultant, focusing on children's rooms. Sam has a YouTube channel for Kids Decor and has appeared in and presented inserts for Expresso TV.

Sam's fourth book, Kids’ Market Day (Struik 2014), was inspired by an event she started in 2011. Kids’ Market Day is an event encouraging children to become little entrepreneurs by being creative and selling their handcrafted 'wares'. It is primarily a fun day for the kids, and run by the kids, and anything goes for under R10.

Sam also runs creative decor workshops, giving parents inspiring decor ideas for their children's bedrooms and personal spaces. She has completed a two-day workshop for Home & Tuis magazine, Wellness Warehouse and the Plascon Showroom in Johannesburg.

As a parent, Sam's motivation for writing and producing kids’ decor books and creative products is to inspire other parents to be more creative with their family and home environments. Sam believes a child’s environment is the first step to creative experience and expression.

Sam also works with Rock Girl SA, a non-profit organisation. Sam has revamped the classrooms at the Red River Primary School in Manenberg with Rock Girl SA.

Sam is an avid runner, tri-athlete, animal rescuer, and beach-goer and climbed Kilimanjaro this year. She is a single mom to her 12-year old daughter, and two dogs who love running with her.
