Wesbank school wins bronze in garden competition

Just over a year since it’s planting, Rainbow Primary School’s vegetable garden secured third place in its category, for the 2018 garden competition for Western Cape schools. The garden, a metaphor for upliftment in Wesbank, was recognised in the National School Nutrition Programme-Sustainable Food Production (NSNP-SFP) garden competition for its outstanding produce.

Hilton Davids, founder of the garden at Rainbow Primary School, says, “Our garden stood out because it’s clean, our vegetables look healthy and of course our gardener, Gerald Bezuidenhout, is fully committed to keep it growing. None of this would be possible without his hard work and of course our long-term partnership with Shoprite. It’s only been one year and we’ve already achieved so much, I can’t wait to see what the future holds.” The R 10, 000 prize money will be reinvested into the development of the garden.
