Plant-Based Burger Jaffles

Description

The classic jaffle gets a fresh burst of flavour thanks to mouth-watering plant-based patties on the coals with onion relish and rich cheese.  

Directions

1.    Spray jaffle irons with cooking spray, close and place irons over the coals to heat. This helps to seal and toast the sandwiches, as they are placed in the iron, to prevent sticking. 

2.    Drizzle plant-based patties with olive oil and season. Place them in a sandwich grid and braai over the coals for a few minutes on each side until heated through and charred.

3.    Brush one side of each of the bread slices with mayonnaise. And place four slices, mayonnaise side out, on a plate. The mayonnaise is used instead of butter to add a golden crust on the jaffle toasties.

4.    Add a spoonful of onion relish on each of the four slices of bread and top with a plant-based pattie, a slice of cheese and tomato. Season with salt and pepper and a little chilli. Top the ingredients with a slice of bread, mayonnaise side out, to cover the ingredients.

5.    Carefully, place sandwiches, mayonnaise side out, on each of the heated irons. Be sure to close the lock on the irons to ensure the sandwich is tightly sealed. Cut off the excess sandwich bread from each of the circular irons - it's best to remove since it will burn while toasting the sandwiches. 

6.    Place jaffles over the coals and toast for 3-5 minutes on each side. Carefully check that the sandwich is toasted and cooked through. 

7.    Slice in half and serve.

•    4 x plant-based burger patties

•    Olive oil

•    Salt and milled pepper

•    8 slices of bread

•    Simple Truth Mayonnaise

•    1 jar Checkers onion relish

•    4 x slices vegan or cheddar cheese

•    1 tomato; sliced

•    Chilli, for serving
