Stokbrood Plant-Based Sausage Rolls

Description

Stokbrood is an absolute must-have at every braai and this recipe puts a fresh twist on this classic with unbelievably flavourful plant-based sausages.

Directions

1.    Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with cling wrap. Leave to rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

2.    Prepare a fire, with medium warm coals. 

3.    Brush vegan sausage with a little oil, season with salt and pepper and braai until heated through and charred.

4.    Stick braaied sausage on skewers.

5.    Divide the dough into 6 pieces. Roll each piece of dough between the palms of your hands until you have long strips. Twist the dough around the sausage and press tightly. 

6.    Brush with oil or melted butter, dust with seasoning and place on the grid and braai for 7–10 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

7.    Serve stokbrood with atchar, tomato sauce and mustard.

•    500 g fresh bread dough from the Checkers bakery

•    Oil

•    Salt and milled pepper

•    6 plant-based sausages

•    2 tbsp. (30 ml) butter or vegan margarine; melted

•    1 tsp. (5 ml) salt

•    Atchar, tomato sauce and mustard to serve
