Know mom, know her wine

Whether mom’s a foodie, a fundi or just a lot of fun, we have the perfect wine gift for her. And some wonderful winelands venues to enjoy with the first lady in your life.

The Romantic:
Made by female winemaker Lizelle Gerber, the Boschendal MCC Brut Rosé suggests romance all the way. Exceptionally pleasing on the eye as well as the palate, this Pinot Noir/Chardonnay blend sparkles with versatility.

The Foodie:
Viognier is a variety some may find intimidating but it allows for a lot of diversity with regards to food pairing. Alvi’s Drift Viognier is a prime example and a double gold Michelangelo winner to boot.  The wine is soft, ripe, and round with a lovely viscous texture. The flavours linger, giving the wine a very long flavour profile. This really is a red wine drinker’s white.

The Party Animal:
The mocha/chocolate style of Pinotage has exploded locally and enjoying a Boland Cellar Cappupino Ccinotage could coax your mom into partying the night away. Whilst it is distinctly fruit-forward, it’s also well balanced. The gentle, soft tannins are very much in the background and it is reminiscent of a smooth after-dinner coffee liqueur.

The Wine Geek:
The Warwick The First Lady Unoaked Chardonnay honours Warwick’s matriarch, Norma Ratcliffe, who will always be known for her exceptional winemaking skills and contribution to the industry. It was deliberately crafted with a fruit-driven style in mind, allowing for immediate enjoyment.

The Bargain Hunter:
Impress your mom with an international wine that won’t break the piggy bank! Atlântico Red from Portugal is a red blend showing a pale ruby red colour. Clean and moderate with the intensity of plums, red berries and an almondy note. Easy drinking – best served slightly chilled, as a serious lunchtime companion!
