Directions

 

To Make the Monkey Gland Sauce: 

1.Heat the oil in a flat bottomed cast iron pot, using low coals. 

2. Fry the onions and garlic until they’re translucent.

3. Add the tomato paste and tomatoes, then bring to a simmer.

4. Add the remaining ingredients and let it simmer until it’s thick. 

5. Remove from the heat.

 

To Make the Spicy Dressing for the Lettuce: 

6. Add the Simple Truth tangy mayonnaise, Lactose Free plain yoghurt and chipotle sauce into a mixing bowl and stir well.


To Make the Steaks: 

7. Rub the olive oil, salt and pepper into the steaks. 

8. Get the fat rendered off first, place steaks fat-side-down.

9.  Place steaks flat over the hot coals for 2 – 4 minutes, turning occasionally. 

10. Once finished, slice the steaks and top with the Monkey Gland sauce. 

 

To Prepare the Lettuce: 

11. Place the lettuce over the coals and turn over allowing it to char just a little bit. Drizzle sauce over the lettuce and serve as extra on the side.


 

Ingredients

For the Steak: 

  • 4 Steakhouse Classic Sirloin Steaks 
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil 

 

For the Monkey Gland Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp. sunflower oil 
  • 2 cloves garlic; crushed 
  • 4 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 3 ripe tomatoes; chopped 
  • 1 cup Simple Truth Chutney 
  • 3 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce 
  • 2 tbsp. red wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tbsp chilli sauce of choice 
  • Salt and pepper to taste

 

Serving Suggestion:

We suggest serving this meal with braai baked potatoes and buttered mielies.
