Let’s Keep Each Other Safe

Using online channels can be a great way to save time and money, but it’s important to be aware of the potential risks that come with it. At Checkers, we want to make sure our customers stay safe while ordering groceries on Sixty60, browsing our website or engaging with us on social media and other channels.

We care about your personal information and any of your data we collect and want you to feel safe in the knowledge that your data is protected.

However, with the online world comes inherent risk. It’s not uncommon for scams to do the rounds on social media, via emails and channels like WhatsApp. These scams may use our brand and seem official, when in fact they may not be.

So, How Do You Keep Safe?

  • We’ve trained our staff to be vigilant and to look out for any suspicious activity.

  • We follow strict policies on verifying your information before any transactions are made.

  • We use the latest security technology to protect your data and to ensure that you transact securely.

  • We also have a dedicated customer service team who are available to answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding the security of your information.

  • Our privacy policy is extensive for your protection and ours – please see it here

Here Is How you Can Protect Yourself

Scams usually require some action to be taken, such as clicking on a link, taking part in a survey, entering a competition, sharing a password or OTP, or even opening an attachment to an email.  Falling victim to a scam can come at the cost of your Xtra Savings account privacy or worse, identity theft.

Follow these guidelines to help avoid online scams:

  • Be wary of competitions and offers that seem too good to be true. It’s a great idea to reference our website and our official social channels for current promotions and competitions. We’ll normally communicate competitions on our usual channels.

  • Take a close look at the sender of an email before taking actions, such as clicking on a link, downloading an attachment, installing software, etc.

  • Make sure you're engaging with an official social media channel or our official website: www.checkers.co.za.

  • Only enter your Xtra Savings card number on the official Checkers website and avoid suspicious links that purport to take you to our website.

  • Keep all your devices up to date and use suitable internet security software.

Checkers Will Never

  • Charge you to apply for a career opportunity.

  • Ask for your banking details, passwords or any other personal or family information that we don’t need.

  • Announce a competition via an unofficial social media page or email address.

  • Charge for a competition entry, for a prize, or to have a prize delivered.

  • Run a competition without publishing clear terms and conditions.

  • Make silly spelling or grammar mistakes – this is often an easy giveaway that the communication is fake.
